  55. I. OVERVIEW OF THE IBMPCL5 DEVICE DRIVER
  56.    -------------------------------------

  58. This version of the IBMPCL5 device driver should be used for best
  59. operation of the:
  60.

  62.      IBM 4029 LaserPrinter 6
  63.      IBM 4029 LaserPrinter 6P
  64.      IBM 4029 LaserPrinter 10
  65.      IBM 4029 LaserPrinter 10L
  66.      IBM 4029 LaserPrinter 10P
  67.      IBM 4039 LaserPrinter 10R
  68.      IBM 4039 LaserPrinter 12R
  69.      IBM 4039 LaserPrinter 12L
  70.      IBM 4039 LaserPrinter 16L
  71.      IBM 4039 LaserPrinter 10R plus

  77. This driver is for use with IBM OS/2 versions 1.3, 2.0 and 2.1.  It operates
  78. the printers in Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet series III printer command
  79. language (PCL 5) mode and supports the multiple graphic resolutions, multiple
  80. paper sources, font cards and download fonts available.
  81.  
  82. To use this printer driver with an IBM 4029 series printer, you must have a
  83. PCL5 Emulation Option installed.
  84.  
  85.   NOTE: All workstations should have an OS/2 level of:
  86.  
  87.              XR05050 for 1.3 SE (1.30.2)   WR05050 for 1.3 EE (1.30.2)
  88.              XR02000 for 2.0               XR02010 for 2.1
  89.  
  90.         or greater.  To determine your OS/2 level, type SYSLEVEL at the
  91.         C:\ prompt in an OS/2 window or Full Screen.

  94. II. PREPARING THE IBMPCL5 DEVICE DRIVER
  95.     -----------------------------------
  96.  
  97. When you executed the self-extracting file, OS2PCL5.EXE, the following 8 files
  98. were created:
  99.

  106. Copy the files listed above to a 1.44 MB (or larger) diskette for ease of
  107. installation as well as to provide an automatic backup.  Do not change
  108. the file names when copying them to the diskette.  If you receive more
  109. than one device driver package, the files provided with each package should
  110. be copied onto a separate diskette to avoid intermixing code or documentation
  111. files from different device driver packages.
  112.  
  113. The driver was partitioned to avoid loss of vital information.  You must run
  114. the utility, SETUP.CMD, provided in this package to reassemble the files for
  115. installation and use with OS/2.
  116.  
  117. SETUP must be run in an OS/2 session.  SETUP will not execute in a DOS window or
  118. on a DOS workstation.  To run SETUP:
  119.  
  120.     1.  Switch to an OS/2 session.
  121.  
  122.     2.  Insert your device driver diskette containing the files listed above
  123.         into the diskette drive.
  124.  
  125.         EXAMPLE: Insert diskette into drive A.
  126.  
  127.     3.  Make that diskette drive the current drive.
  128.  
  129.         EXAMPLE: Type A: and press Enter.
  130.  
  131.     4.  Run SETUP.
  132.  
  133.         EXAMPLE: Type SETUP and press Enter.
  134.  
  135.     5.  SETUP combines the original files into 3 new files.  These files should
  136.         only be copied using an OS/2 workstation.  The driver will not install
  137.         properly on OS/2 if the files are copied using a DOS workstation.  The
  138.         OS2PCL5.EXE and SETUP.CMD files are no longer needed and may be erased.

  157.     7.  If you are using OS/2 version 1.3, continue with Section III.A.  If
  158.         you are using OS/2 version 2.0 or 2.1, continue with Section III.B.
  159.         These sections contain unique steps required to properly install this
  160.         driver.  Jobs will not print UNLESS these instructions are followed.

  163. III.A. INSTALLING THE IBMPCL5 DEVICE DRIVER ON OS/2 VERSION 1.3
  164.        --------------------------------------------------------
  165.  
  166.  
  167.     The following steps must be followed to correctly install the IBMPCL5
  168.     device driver on OS/2 Version 1.3:
  169.  
  170.  
  171.     1.  Your CONFIG.SYS file must contain the statement IOPL=YES for the
  172.         IBMPCL5 device driver to install correctly.  If the statement is not
  173.         in your CONFIG.SYS file, you must perform the following two actions:
  174.  
  175.           * Add the statement IOPL=YES at the end of your CONFIG.SYS file.
  176.  
  177.           * Restart your system  (Press and hold CTRL and ALT and press DELETE).
  178.  
  179.     2.  If the IBMPCL5 device driver is already installed on your system, you
  180.         must do the following two actions prior to installing the new version
  181.         of the IBMPCL5 printer driver:
  182.  
  183.           * Print or cancel all jobs in all queues that use the IBMPCL5 device
  184.             driver.
  185.  
  186.           * Restart your system  (Press and hold CTRL and ALT and press DELETE).
  187.  
  188.     3.  Select the Print Manager program.
  189.  
  190.     4.  Select SETUP on the Print Manager window.
  191.  
  192.     5.  Select PRINTER INSTALL... to display the Printer Installer window.
  193.  
  194.     6.  Select NEW... on the Printer Installer window.
  195.  
  196.     7.  On the New Printer Driver Location window, enter the path where the
  197.         new IBMPCL5 driver is located, then select OK.
  198.  
  199.     8.  When the New Printer Driver Model window appears, select the printer
  200.         driver that matches your printer, such as "IBM 4029 LaserPrinter 5E.IBM
  201.         4029 LaserPrinter 5E (IBMPCL5.DRV)".
  202.  
  203.     9.  Select OK.  The printer driver is copied to your hard drive.
  204.  
  205.    10.  On the Printer Installer window,
  206.  
  207.           * Select the port to which your printer is attached.
  208.           * Specify a name and brief description for the printer.
  209.           * If this is the printer you typically use, select the Make Default
  210.             checkbox.
  211.           * Select OK to create a new printer name and queue.  If you press
  212.             CANCEL, a new printer and queue will not be created.
  213.  
  214.    11.  Select SETUP on the Print Manager window and do the following steps:
  215.  
  216.           * Select PRINTERS... to display the Printers window.
  217.           * Select the printer (for example, "IBMPCL51") that uses the IBMPCL5
  218.             device driver.
  219.           * Select CHANGE... to display the Change Printer window.
  220.           * Select the printer you have just installed.  (For example,
  221.             "IBM 4029.IBM 4029 LaserPrinter 5E").
  222.           * Select PRINTER PROPERTIES.
  223.           * On the dialog that appears, check that the version number is 1.156a.
  224.           * If the version number is 1.156a, then exit these dialogs and
  225.             continue with Section IV.A, SETTING UP THE IBMPCL5 DEVICE DRIVER
  226.             AND PRINTER ON OS/2 VERSION 1.3.
  227.           * If the version number is not 1.156a, then perform step 12.
  228.  
  229.    12.  Copy the IBMPCL5.DRV and IBMPCL5.HLP files from your diskette into
  230.         the directory containing the old IBMPCL5.DRV file (for example,
  231.         C:\OS2\DLL\IBMPCL5 or C:\OS2\DLL\LEXMARK\PCL\IBMPCL5).  Continue with
  232.         Section IV.A, SETTING UP THE IBMPCL5 DEVICE DRIVER AND PRINTER
  233.         ON OS/2 VERSION 1.3.

  236. III.B. INSTALLING THE IBMPCL5 DEVICE DRIVER ON OS/2 VERSION 2.X
  237.        --------------------------------------------------------
  238.  
  239.  
  240.     The following steps must be followed to correctly install the IBMPCL5
  241.     device driver on OS/2 Version 2.0 and OS/2 Version 2.1:
  242.  
  243.  
  244.     1.  If the IBMPCL5 device driver is already installed on your system, you
  245.         must do the following two actions prior to installing the new version
  246.         of the IBMPCL5 printer driver:
  247.  
  248.           * Print or cancel all jobs in all queues that use the IBMPCL5 device
  249.             driver.
  250.  
  251.           * Shutdown your system by pointing to an open area on the desktop and
  252.             clicking mouse button 2.  From the pop-up menu that will appear,
  253.             select SHUTDOWN.  When a message appears that says that the
  254.             system has been shutdown, restart your system (press and hold CTRL
  255.             and ALT and press DELETE).
  256.  
  257.  
  258.     2.  If you are installing the printer driver for use with an existing
  259.         printer object, follow the instructions outlined in section III.B.A
  260.         below.
  261.  
  262.         If you want to create a new printer object when you install this
  263.         printer driver, follow the instructions in section III.B.B below.
  264.  
  265. III.B.A. INSTALLING THE IBMPCL5 DEVICE DRIVER ON AN EXISTING PRINTER OBJECT
  266.          ------------------------------------------------------------------
  267.  
  268.     1.  To install this new device driver on the existing printer object,
  269.         point to the object and click mouse button 2.  This will open the
  270.         pop-up menu.
  271.  
  272.     2.  Select the arrow to the right of OPEN; then select SETTINGS.
  273.  
  274.     3.  Select the PRINTER DRIVER tab.
  275.  
  276.     4.  Display the pop-up menu for any printer object in the window by
  277.         pointing to the object and clicking mouse button 2.
  278.  
  279.     5.  Select INSTALL.
  280.  
  281.     6.  Insert the diskette containing the IBMPCL5 driver into drive A.  Make
  282.         sure that the directory field in the window contains A:\.  Then select
  283.         REFRESH.
  284.  
  285.     7.  Available Printer Driver Objects will be shown in the window.  Select
  286.         the printer driver that matches your printer.
  287.  
  288.     8.  Select INSTALL.
  289.  
  290.     9.  A message is displayed when the driver has been successfully installed.
  291.         Select OK.
  292.  
  293.    10.  Close the "Install New Printer Driver" window.  Select the IBMPCL5
  294.         driver that you have just installed as your default printer driver.
  295.  
  296.         Printer driver installation is now complete; continue with Section IV.B,
  297.         SETTING UP THE IBMPCL5 DEVICE DRIVER AND PRINTER ON OS/2 VERSION 2.X.

  300. III.B.B. INSTALLING THE IBMPCL5 DEVICE DRIVER WHILE CREATING A NEW PRINTER
  301.          OBJECT
  302.          ------------------------------------------------------------------
  303.  
  304.     1.  To create a new printer object as you install this new device driver,
  305.         double-click on the OS/2 system object to open the icon view.
  306.  
  307.     2.  Double-click on DRIVES.
  308.  
  309.     3.  Insert the diskette containing the IBMPCL5 device driver into the A
  310.         drive.
  311.  
  312.     4.  In the Drives window, double-click on drive A.  A window appears that
  313.         contains objects for the contents of the diskette.
  314.  
  315.     5.  Double-click on the IBMPCL5.DRV object.  A window appears from which
  316.         you can select the printer model you want.
  317.  
  318.     6.  Drag the printer model from the window out to an available place on
  319.         your desktop.
  320.  
  321.     7.  Close the windows that were opened as you installed the driver.
  322.  
  323.     8.  To change the name of the printer object, press and hold the ALT key
  324.         while you click on the object name with mouse button 1.  In the name
  325.         field of the next window displayed, enter the printer name that you
  326.         prefer.  Click mouse button 1 while pointing to an open area of the
  327.         desktop to accept the new name.
  328.  
  329.     9.  If you have an IBM 4039 LaserPrinter, and choose to install a Win-OS/2
  330.         printer driver for your printer, you should use the IBM 4039 Print
  331.         Accelerator.  The IBM 4039 Print Accelerator is on a diskette shipped
  332.         with the printer.  If you have an IBM 4029 LaserPrinter, and choose to
  333.         install a Win-OS/2 driver, you should use the printer driver for the
  334.         Hewlett-Packard LaserJet III printer.  The Hewlett-Packard Win-OS/2
  335.         driver for the LaserJet III is included in the OS/2 diskettes.
  336.  
  337.         Printer driver installation is now complete; continue with Section IV.B,
  338.         SETTING UP THE IBMPCL5 DEVICE DRIVER AND PRINTER ON OS/2 VERSION 2.X.

  341. IV.A. SETTING UP THE IBMPCL5 DEVICE DRIVER AND PRINTER ON OS/2 VERSION 1.3

  344. The following steps should be followed before printing is attempted
  345. to ensure the driver settings match the configuration of your printer.
  346.  
  347.     1.  Select the Print Manager program.
  348.  
  349.     2.  Select SETUP on the PRINT MANAGER window.
  350.  
  351.     3.  Select PRINTERS... to display the Printers window.
  352.  
  353.     4.  Select the desired printer (for example, "IBMPCL51").
  354.  
  355.     5.  Select CHANGE...
  356.  
  357.     6.  Select the IBMPCL5 printer driver that matches your printer (for example,
  358.        "IBMPCL5.IBM 4029 LaserPrinter 5E").
  359.  
  360.     7.  Select PRINTER PROPERTIES...
  361.  
  362.     8.  The next window is titled with the name of the printer you chose.  On
  363.         this window, you can:
  364.  
  365.           * Select the settings that describe the physical setup of your
  366.             printer.
  367.  
  368.           * Select the default characteristics for print jobs.
  369.  
  370.           * Select FORM CONNECTIONS... to specify the forms installed in each
  371.             paper tray on the printer.
  372.  
  373.           * Select FONT CARDS... to specify any font cards you have for the
  374.             printer.
  375.  
  376.           * Select DOWNLOAD FONTS... to specify any download fonts you have for
  377.             the printer.
  378.  
  379.         Note that the Driver Version is shown in this window.

  381.         After you have completed these settings, select OK to save this
  382.         configuration.

  384.     9.  Select Change on the Change Printer window.

  386.    10.  Select OK on the Printers window.

  390. NOTE: In some cases, single pages are printed as multiple pages because the
  391.       printer Timeout Setting is active.  Use the operator panel on the printer
  392.       to disable the Print Timeout Setting.  For a detailed explanation

  396. IV.B. SETTING UP THE IBMPCL5 DEVICE DRIVER AND PRINTER ON OS/2 VERSION 2.X

  399. The following steps should be followed before printing is attempted
  400. to ensure the driver settings match the configuration of your printer.

  402.     1.  Display the pop-up menu for the printer object by pointing to it and
  403.         clicking mouse button 2.

  405.     2.  Select the arrow to the right of OPEN, then select SETTINGS.
